The New Yorker, The Sam Houston or Paul Conway Leather helmets?
Aug 15, 2008 · The New Yorker and Sam Houston have the same outer shell. The difference is the New Yorker is only OSHA rated and the Sam Houston is both OSHA and NFPA rated. The Conway is also NFPA rated. I have worn a Sam Houston for about 12 years now. Take a beating and keeps going.

Jan 16, 2011 · The Sam Houston (N6A) seems to have a higher brim on it (top of the helmet). Not sure if it does or not...I've not measured them. The N5A (New Yorker) at one time was the only one compliant with our almighty NFPA standards and the N6A was only OSHA compliant.

I currently have a New Yorker, I am looking for a Sam Houston size large I would prefer red as we just went back to color helmets,,,,,We were all black except for Chief Officers now its yellow for recruit black for ff/pm blue for lieut. and red for capt. any help would be great jim BCFD RESCUE 1

Im a DOD firefighter currently working for Ft. Sam Houston fire department here in san antonio texas. We will be hiring at least 20 guys real soon due to our department growing. our new hires will be coming in as Gs-7s which is a tailboard firefighter for us with a rotation as a driver operator.

Aug 4, 2009 · Probably will as you are looking into feedback for them. With that said though, ask your Fire Chief if the helmet needs to be NFPA approved. If so, then the N6A Houston is what you need to be compliant as the New Yorker or N5A is not NFPA compliant and has no breakaway impact liner protection. The New Yorker is lighter and there is a reason.
