Rumaila is one of the world’s greatest so-called super-giant oilfields – those that contain over a billion barrels of recoverable oil. It is estimated that some 17 billion barrels of recoverable oil are still contained within Rumaila’s reservoirs.

Today, Rumaila is the second-largest producing oilfield in the world and is Iraq’s greatest source of revenue. Since the establishment of the TSC, the field has produced more than 6.5 billion barrels of oil – generating more than around 25% of Iraq’s budget.
