Once so, when trying to log using my Google account, I have the network indicator (at the bottom of Virtual Box window) briefly flashing, showing a connection attempt. I tried to create a host only network in virtual box. I left the adapter settings at the default, and unchecked DHCP server. now when I run ifconfig on the metasploitable box, there is no ip address listed. Am I setting up/connecting to/not configuring the host only network correctly?

Jan 31, 2018 · I was unable to configure the DHCP server and adapter following the instructions I found elsewhere on this internet because in Virtualbox 5.2.4 for windows, the host only settings are under "Global Tools" and not File>>Preferences. After the configuration, I set both Kali and Metasploitable to Host Only adapter and everything works as expected now.

Shutdown the VM properly before trying to add a network adaptor. You cannot change settings while it is in a "saved" state. Power up the VM, then go to power it off again, but in the following window select Power off the machine rather than Save the machine state. You should then have access to the settings to add a network adaptor.
