Word has it that VW changed suppliers some time in 2001. This problem also exists for Audi A4 1.8T owners as well. Many folks on vwvortex.com and clubb5.com are reporting the exact same problem - car shakes, MIL flashing, coil pack dead. VW used to replace all 4 when this happens, since the other 3 coils are being "over worked".

Every VW I’ve owned has gone at least 200,000 miles (my 1987 Golf has gone 624,000 miles). The secret - they are properly MAINTAINED. I also bought these cars because I knew what I was buying instead of listening to advertising jargon from a bunch of marketing-droids peddling the latest bells and whistles.

MSRP, 0 ADM. RV and lease cash as per VW, of course, but marking up the MF by 0.0004 as part of the deal. CO credits will go down by $1,500 as of Jan 1 and this will ship later than that (Jan 15 projected earliest). If VW's lease cash evaporates with political uncertainty as of January's incentives then I'll back out.

Yes the 7000 is positive equity in my current VW lease trade in. Yes he said the selling price is what MSRP is and noticed all those fees as well. I went back with an offer based of last months MF .00243 with 500 down of 488 month but he wouldnt bite. thanks

Just looked online at my local VW store and they have a few Golf GTI 2.0T SE's for sale, a couple white pearl/black and a Moonstone Gray/black. I prefer the Moonstone Gray actually. Not a fan of the one piece tall front bucket seats but wouldn't be a deal killer by any means.

I just completed a trip with my 2000 Intrepid (base 2.7) and got a consistant 30 mpg. on the highway (running 70-75 mph). I only had 2300 miles on the car when I left - hardly broken in! It was smooth and comfortable AND efficient (compared to my '95 VW golf GL, which gets 35 mpg hauling a lot less car and with a 5spd). A great car for the money.
