Radiculopathy is a temporary issue caused by a pinched nerve root near your spine. Myelopathy is compression of your spinal cord caused by a trauma, tumor, degenerative disease or infection. If it’s not treated, myelopathy can worsen over time and cause permanent damage to your nerves.

Radicular pain, or radiculitis (from the Latin: radicula, lit. 'small root'), is pain "radiated" along the dermatome (sensory distribution) of a nerve due to inflammation or other irritation of the nerve root (radiculopathy) at its connection to the spinal column. [1]

Radicular pain occurs when the spinal nerve gets compressed (pinched) or inflamed. Pain that radiates down the back of the leg into the foot is called radiculopathy or sciatica. Sciatica can be deep and steady, and it can worsen with certain activities, like sitting or walking.

Symptoms of radiculopathy vary by location but frequently include pain, weakness, numbness and tingling. A common cause of radiculopathy is narrowing of the space where nerve roots exit the spine, which can be a result of stenosis, bone spurs, disc herniation or other conditions.
