Northern Kentucky University is a public university in Highland Heights, Kentucky, United States. Established in 1968, it is the youngest of Kentucky's eight public universities. It had an enrollment of 15,800 students in 2022, over 10,000 of which were undergraduates and nearly 5,000 were postgraduates. [4]

Northern's main campus is located along US 27, seven miles southeast of Cincinnati, Ohio. Northern's location places it in the largest metropolitan area of all the state universities in Kentucky. Groundbreaking for the Highland Heights campus was March 31, 1971. Open house was held October 29, 1972.
