Jun 2, 2009 · The 316 was later re-introduced as an open rear frame with an Onan 16 HP power plant, and later the 316 got the 18 HP Onan. The 314 had a Kohler. The 317 also had a Kohler. The early 317s had a problem with engine failure due to non-pressurized lube. Deere then put a Series II Kohler with pressurized lube to resolve the problem.

I'm buy a 1986 JD316 but the original engine smoke a lot and the owner before install a JD318 engine but have the same problem... The true I don't know what way I'm go if I'm rebuild one of those engine or repower with Honda GX 630 . I'm wait for some tips to help me what way go. Thanks!

May 18, 2014 · The 316 with Kohler is basically a model 300 with a different sticker on the hood. A twin cylinder replaced the single cylinder for 1979 and was the model 317. Once again basically the same tractor with alterations made for the engine to fit. 316 and 318 onans brought major changes to the chassis, tranny etc
