Griffith Park lies just west of the Golden State Freeway (I-5), roughly between Los Feliz Boulevard on the south and the Ventura Freeway (SR 134) on the north. Freeway off-ramps leading to the park from I-5 are Los Feliz Boulevard, Griffith Park (direct entry) and Zoo Drive.

Griffith Park is one of the largest municipal parks in North America and is the largest historic landmark in the City of Los Angeles (Historic Cultural Monument #942), now covering 4,511 acres.
Those walking to the Observatory are encouraged to take one of the hiking trails which originate near the Greek Theatre or Fern Dell. There is public parking near all trailheads.
