Fokker D.XVII - Wikipedia
Fokker D.XVII (sometimes written as Fokker D.17), was a 1930s Dutch sesquiplane developed by Fokker. It was the last fabric-covered biplane fighter they developed in a lineage that extended back to the First World War Fokker D.VII. The Curtiss Conqueror powered D.XVII prototype.

The D.XVII would be the last biplane designed by Fokker. The first flight of the D.XVII took place on November 27, 1931, after which the LVA (Dutch Air Force) ordered 10 D.XVIIs in 1932, the first of which was delivered in 1934.

The D.XVII was intended to replace and supplement the Curtiss Hawk (14 acquired from 1929, 8 from Curtiss, 6 built on license by Aviolanda). The characteristics and performance of the D.XVII differed much from the Hawk. In addition, the Hawk proved much more reliable and cheaper in use than Fokker aircraft (the C.V).

Essentially a progressive development of the D XVI with a Curtiss V-1570 Conqueror engine, the D XVII embodied a number of aerodynamic refinements while retaining the basic structure of the earlier fighter and its armament of two 7.92mm M.36 machine guns.

In 1931 ontwierp Ir. Marius Beeling, Fokkers nieuwe ontwerper/constructeur, de anderhalfdekker D.XVII. Oorspronkelijk werd de D.XVII ontworpen voor het KNIL in Indië, als vervanger van de mislukte KNIL-versie van de D.XVI. De D.XVII zou de laatste tweedekker worden die door Fokker werd ontworpen.

Fokker D.XVII, was a Dutch biplane created by Fokker. The protoype was powered by a unsupercharged 500+ hp Curtiss Conqueror. A later model was configured with a Rolls-Royce Kestrel of 600 hp and plans were made for a Hispano-Suiza Xbre variant.
