Rather than stopping at a fast food drive in during the 1930’s and thereafter, when hungry they would drop by the local Chinese restaurant for a sit down meal of a Chow Mein Sandwich, French Fries, and an Orange Soda.

Nowhere else can make a sweet bread loaf like my hometown of Fall River, MA. It is a traditional recipe that is known to be brought over from the immigrants of São Miguel. This bread is most popular at Easter but enjoyed year-round.

Good Old Portuguese Soup. Ingredients. 1 lb green split peas. 6 carrots, chopped. 2 pieces of Michael's Chourico. 1 soup shank. 7 medium potatoes, cut in 4. 1 bunch of kale, chopped. 1 whole onion. 2 qt water. 1 small cabbage. Directions. Cook pea, chourico, meat, kale and onion until meat is cooked. Add potatoes and carrots.

With a large Portuguese immigration population, this kale-chourico soup is on the menu of a lot of the local restaurants. A hearty, warm soup for the colder months; it has become my “go to” soup recipe for kale.

Come to the east coast for a good ol' fashioned New England clam boil! Or, make it yourself at home! This delicious meal made up soft shell clams (aka "steamers"), potatoes, onions, hot dogs, sausage, and chourico or linguica. It is great for feeding large groups, and is a summer time favorite. But enjoyed year round!
