With the acquisition of the former Rutherfordton Elementary School site, on Maple Street, town leaders had previously agreed to transform the two-story building on the site into a combination town hall and police station.

SPINDALE — A planned housing development on Old Ballpark Road in Spindale is canceled. Spindale Council Member Amy Cowan, through the upset bid process, legally acquired the property, after Habitat For Humanity originally offered to purchase the property and disclosed the development plans.

RUTHERFORDTON — The Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Committee of New Hope has announced its schedule for MLK Holiday weekend. On Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, the MLK Prayer Breakfast will be held at First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton, Fellowship Center, at 9 a.m. Cost is $15, with proceeds supporting the MLK Scholarship Fund.
