Sep 16, 2021 · So, I pretty much have this exact setup (even the same gpu in the laptop) and work in the same industry. Works great. Thunderbolt 4 is especially optimized for eGPU use so in a perfect set up you should be able to get to 10% of desktop i7 +3090 performance. I run off a razer core x chroma which has enough juice to power a 3090 fine.

Nov 23, 2023 · I went from a 3090 desktop to a 4090 laptop and the performance is comparable, maybe even a bit faster than my desktop was but that could've partly been due to having a slower CPU and less RAM. I play at 3840x1600 (21:9 ultrawide) on my monitor set up and the laptop handles it like a champ

Aug 1, 2022 · No idea about the laptop temperature side of things, but just don’t overclock your laptop GPU and raise it off the desk or whatever a bit so the vents aren’t blocked and you should be good. Also can look into undervolting.

Mar 23, 2023 · The laptop 4090 is closer to a 3090 than a 3080. Its a great laptop gpu dont get me wrong but the price of it makes it not worth it. If you plan on using it for gaming, which if you are youll have it plugged in anyways…why dont you just make a small form factor build with a portable monitor.

You'll have to buy something like the R43SG 4.0, you'll also have to connect a desktop PSU, the laptop power supplies a lot of people use with the R43SG 4.0 won't work with an RTX 3090 because it is so power hungry. There are a few caveats that might make this not worth it.

Feb 14, 2023 · Oh the drop is real when comparing the same series, a Razer Blade with 3070ti can consume up to 105W for the gpu, while the desktop version take up to 290W, which is more than the whole laptop itself lol, I have a razer blade with 2070 in it and a pc with 3090, the difference is like comparing a bus to a spaceship lol

If you can handle this (power + heat) then 3090 will be better. 4070 performs like a 3080. 4070 is 200 watts tho, 3080 is 350 watts. 3090 is 400-450 watts and 3090 Ti is 500-550 watts. Huge difference. Also 4000 series has DLSS 3 + Frame Generation support.
