A trip to the limestone pavements of Hutton Roof was meant to be about capturing the moonscape of water-worn limestone, and some shots may have captured that; we'll see. The position of this tree and the trails in gorgeous blue sky made this an unexpected, but nonetheless welcome, capture.

Hutton Roof Crags is a hill in southeastern Cumbria in northwest England, located near to the village of Hutton Roof. It has extensive areas of limestone pavement as well as grassland and woodland. The hill forms the Hutton Roof Crags Site of Special Scientific Interest and is part of the Morecambe Bay Pavements Special Area of Conservation.

Hutton Roof Crags is contained within an area of open access land, so once past the gate, we could in principle walk wherever we want. In practice, dense bracken restricts us to a network of well-trodden routes that criss-cross some of the best limestone pavement to be found in the UK.

This circular walk starts in the village of Hutton Roof and follows the Limestone Link over Hutton Roof Crags and Newbiggin Crags before reaching the high point at Farleton Knott. From here there are fabulous views over the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
