The Cardston Alberta Temple is the 6th dedicated temple in operation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Cardston Alberta Temple (formerly the Alberta Temple) is a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cardston, Alberta. It was the eighth temple constructed and is the sixth still in operation.

Mar 26, 2019 · The construction of the Alberta (now Cardston) Temple inaugurated an effort led by Joseph F. Smith to build temples closer to Church members who lived far from the four operating temples in Utah.

Aug 25, 2023 · The Cardston Alberta Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is both a monument to and centrepiece of the faith of Latter-day Saints in Canada. The temple marks its centennial on August 26, 2023. The Cardston Alberta Temple was designated a national historic site of Canada in 1992.

Designed in 1912 by Pope and Burton of Salt Lake City, its geometric composition of white granite blends ancient and modern themes, notably Mayan-Aztec and the Prairie School architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Special rooms reserved for sacred ceremonies are richly embellished with woodwork, murals and furnishings.

The temple has been remodeled twice, with the final rededication given by President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a counselor in the First Presidency. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in central and southern Alberta, southeastern British Columbia and northern Montana.

A veritable fortress of God in spiritual strength as well as physical appearance, the Cardston Alberta Temple has a commanding view of the Canadian prairie in all directions from Cardston. As an Apostle, Elder David O. McKay laid the cornerstone of the Cardston Alberta Temple in 1915.

The temple serves Latter-day Saints in central and southern Alberta, southeastern British Columbia and northern Montana. The exterior of the 7,590-square-metre temple is white granite quarried near Kootenai Lakes in Nelson, British Columbia.

Jun 22, 1991 · Architecture and Design of the Cardston Alberta Temple. Original Design. The original structure was built on an eight-acre site called the Tabernacle Block. The Cardston temple lacked an assembly hall and tall spires, deviating from how temples were normally built.
