Jan 16, 2025 · Freezing temperatures swept through the region last week from Tuesday, Jan. 7. and are ongoing (at the time of writing), causing icy road conditions leading to several accidents in the Trinidad area, including a 4-hour I-25 southbound closure at mile point 11 as a commercial vehicle slid off the roadway, needing heavy tow recovery.

After the National Weather Service Pueblo issued a winter weather advisory last week, most prominently on Jan. 9, which included Las Animas County, with temperatures as low as 6 degrees Fahrenheit with winds around 45 mph, Mission of the Way and the Church of Christ collaborated to open a warming shelter to help those needing sanctuary from the freezing temperatures.
