WASHINGTON, Jan. 5, 2025 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert due to concerns of frozen, raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically hard plastic and metal.

FSIS protects public health by preventing illness from meat, poultry, and egg products. We do this by ensuring these products are safe, wholesome and properly labeled. FSIS is part of a national science-based system to ensure food safety and food defense.

Thousands of FSIS inspectors across the U.S. conduct daily inspection activities, verifying domestic industry compliance with applicable food safety regulatory requirements.
