Maria Fire initially started 3:22 p.m. June 16 in Ventura County. Since its discovery 15 hours ago, it has burned 60 acres. As of Tuesday morning, 50% of the fire was brought under containment by a fire crew of 20. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

A brush fire broke out Monday afternoon in the city of Santa Paula, Ventura County, fire officials announced. The flames were being fanned by onshore winds as the blaze some 20 acres in the Santa Clara River bottom.

Firefighters in Ventura County were battling two brush fires Monday night. The Howe fire, the larger blaze, had blackened about 40 acres and was burning in steep terrain south of the unincorporated town of Piru in the area around the Santa Clara River.
