Stanford University’s student newspaper has sued the Trump administration, arguing that it has violated the free-speech rights of foreign students. A lawsuit filed by the Stanford Daily & two unidentified students claims the administration targeted foreign students with immigration actions due to their pro-Palestinian views.

Stanford University’s student-run newspaper sued the Trump administration on Wednesday over its decision to use part of a federal immigration law to target and deport pro-Palestinian activists, arguing the government’s effort has impermissibly chilled students’ First Amendment rights.

Stanford University’s independent student newspaper and two noncitizen students filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, alleging that federal immigration policies are being used to suppress protected political speech under the Trump administration.
