Former Vice President Kamala Harris said she would not run for public office because the system is “broken,” as she reflected on her decision not to pursue a gubernatorial run in California and spoke about what she views as “capitulation” by those tasked with guarding democracy during Donald Trump’s second administration.

Critics of President Donald Trump think he lacked quite a bit of self-awareness when he said at a press conference this week that former Vice President Kamala Harris “can’t speak” and “can’t do an interview.

Republican pollster Frank Luntz also cast doubt about whether the former president is capable of taking his advice.

There’s a swath of the party that would be glad if Harris doesn’t run in 2028 — or campaign actively in the midterms.
