Transgender women will no longer be eligible to compete for the United States in the Olympic or Paralympic Games in women's sports, after a policy change from the USOPC.

The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee has effectively barred transgender women from competing in women's sports, telling sports governing bodies it has an "obligation to comply" with federal policy.

USOPC's previous policy had said transgender participation should be based on 'fairness' and 'science-based evidence rather than ideology.'
