AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Democrats on Monday prevented their state’s House of Representatives from moving forward, at least for now, with a redrawn congressional map sought by President Donald Trump to shore up Republicans’ 2026 midterm prospects as his political standing falters.

The warrants apply only within state lines, making them largely symbolic as most of the legislators in question decamped to Illinois, New York and Massachusetts.

Texas House Democrats held a press conference on Monday to explain their decision to break quorum and leave the state, while Republicans issued civil arrest warrants for the absent lawmakers in an attempt to compel their return.
