A Texas judge issued a temporary restraining order against Beto O’Rourke’s nonprofit after the state AG accused him of unlawfully fundraising for Democrats who fled to block GOP bills.

On Sunday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called on law enforcement to “hunt down” Democrats who left the state in protest against Republicans’ gerrymandering efforts. On Wednesday, those same Democrats were forced to evacuate the Illinois hotel they were staying in due to bomb threats.

Texas Democrats are facing a full-blown retaliation campaign after fleeing the state to block a Trump-backed redistricting plan including lawsuits, potential arrests, and even calls for the FBI to track them down.

Will the FBI help the Republican Party force through a partisan redistricting plan in Texas, or not? The answer to that question is of vital importance to sustaining American democracy. Republican state legislative leaders want to redraw Texas’s congressional districts to give their party as many as five more seats in next year’s midterm elections.
