Venus Williams became the second-oldest woman to win a tour-level singles match in professional tennis, delivering some of her familiar big serves and groundstrokes at age 45 while beating Peyton Stearns — 22 years her junior — by a 6-3, 6-4 score at the DC Open on Tuesday night.

Williams is scheduled to make her return in the singles competition, where she will face Cincinnati-native Peyton Stearns. Stearns is currently ranked 35th by the WTA, as opposed to her career high of #28. Stearns attended the University of Texas where she won a NCAA Singles crown and back-to-back NCAA team titles.
