Microsoft isn't slowing down. The world's second-largest company by market cap reported blockbuster fourth-quarter earnings, sending shares surging so high after hours that the tech giant became a member of the exclusive $4 trillion club.

Volume was lower on the Nasdaq exchange while higher on the New York Stock Exchange compared with Monday, in preliminary numbers. On the Nasdaq exchange, falling stocks edged out rising ones by more than 2-to-1. In yet another rotation on the NYSE, winners slightly edged out losers.

U.S. stock futures were flat Tuesday evening after the SP 500 and Nasdaq ended their winning streak, with investors cautious ahead of the Federal Reserves policy decision and a flood of corporate earnings.
