Ron Rivera, who took the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl a decade ago, said Wednesday he's headed to the football staff at Cal, his alma mater.

Cal is expected to hire seasoned NFL coaching veteran Ron Rivera to general manager-like position, CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reports. Rivera is a former All-American linebacker for the Golden Bears with 13 seasons of NFL head coaching experience.

Former NFL head coach Ron Rivera is looking to head back to college to work at his alma mater. Rivera said Wednesday on social media that he is following the lead of Bill Belichick and will take a job in some capacity at California. “Coach Belichick has made going back to school, cool,” he wrote. “Stay tuned I am coming home.”
