Poland reintroduced border checks with Germany and Lithuania at midnight of July 8 in a temporary move aimed at curbing unauthorised migration. The controls will remain in place until August 5, the Interior Ministry said.

SLUBICE, Poland -- Poland reinstated border controls on Monday with neighboring Germany and Lithuania following similar German restrictions imposed earlier this year aimed at discouraging asylum-seekers.

However, Poland's newly-elected President Karol Nawrocki, of the right-wing Law and Justice Party, has spoken in support of "citizen-led control of the borders", and blamed Tusk for confrontations between official and unofficial border patrol groups.
