“It’s a huge architectural achievement,” said Jeff Henry, coauthor of the 2004 book “Old Faithful Inn: Crown Jewel of National Park Lodges. “To get it done in 11 and a half months in a very, very remote area, especially at that time, is incredible. It was the architect’s first major project, and he hit a homerun at his first at-bat.”

A teenage boy visiting Yellowstone National Park was seriously burned when his foot broke through the ground near a geyser by the infamous Old Faithful, officials said.

The park service continues to remind visitors to stay on designated paths to avoid serious injuries or fatalities. Pets are also prohibited in thermal areas to prevent similar incidents. This incident follows a series of other injuries in the park, including bison attacks earlier this year.
