European defense ministers are working on schemes to establish a joint drone wall across the eastern border of NATO in response to a significant increase in aerial incursions.
Several unidentified drones shut down airspace in the country, prompting concerns that Russia could be behind the incident.
Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland have been working on a drone wall project, but in March, the European Union’s executive branch rejected a joint Estonia-Lithuania request for funds to set one up.
Suspected drone activity disrupted Denmark's Aalborg airport for the second time within 24 hours on Thursday evening, after Copenhagen alerted NATO and the EU over a similar "hybrid attack" the day before.
Romania said its F-16 pilots were "very close" to shooting down the Russian drone, but that it eventually exited Romanian airspace.
