However, once the change occurs, the name change on Google Maps would be visible only in the U.S. Outside of the U.S., users will see both the Gulf of Mexico and Gulf of America, according to Reuters.

It was later named Mount McKinley by the U.S. government in 1917 in honor of former U.S. President William McKinley, a Republican who was president from 1897 to 1901.
