Hanging out of the car with excitement, Marcelo Gomes da Silva couldn’t wait to return home to Milford on Thursday after spending six days in ICE custody. “The only thing I wanted to do when I got back here was hug my parents, my dad, yeah, my dad means the world to me,” said Marcelo Gomes da Silva.

Marcelo Gomes, the Milford, Massachusetts high school student currently detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), had a student visa, but it expired, his attorney said.Gomes will have a hearing in his case Thursday.

The student, a junior whose name hasn't been released, had been in the country since he was 5 years old, a school administrator said.
