The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies seemed destined for a division race that will come down to the wire. The Mets could target more pitchers to help win the National League East and make a deep run.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Mets have been scouting Pittsburgh Pirates right-handers David Bednar and Dennis Santana, Cade Smith and Emmanuel Clase of the Cleveland Guardians, Baltimore Orioles relievers Gregory Soto and Félix Bautista, Washington Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan and Seth Halvorsen of the Colorado Rockies.

Tiffany Stratton had thrown out the first pitch last month ahead of a Mets-Nationals game when she sent her first pitch attempt sailing far to the right of Mets outfielder Jared Young.

Garcia was on the Mets 10 days ago. They waived him, and the Yankees claimed him. The righty reliever then made a 2.2-inning appearance for the Yankees on Friday night. They placed him on waivers on Saturday. And on Monday, the Mets claimed Garcia back off of waivers, in a move announced by the team.

If the Guardians decide to sell at the trade deadline, Steven Kwan would have plenty of suitors. The New York Mets would be very close to the top of that list.
