Headlining a list of changes to the San Francisco coaching staff is the long-awaited promotion of Klay Kubiak to offensive coordinator after four seasons with the 49ers.
That person is assistant quarterbacks coach Klay Kubiak, son of Gary Kubiak, who gave Shanahan his first job as an offensive coordinator back in 2008. Now Shanahan is returning the favor.
While the Kubiak name clearly precedes him, it's about the coaching and the teaching for the first-year head coach. 'These kids just want to be coached hard and they want a leader," Klay said.
