Barcelona have signed goalkeeper Joan García from rivals Espanyol in a €25 million ($28.5m) deal, the Spanish champions announced.

Barcelona says it has signed Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García on a six-year contract. Barcelona says it has activated a release clause of 25 million euros.

Since the turn of the century only one player has signed directly from Espanyol before Joan Garcia, the striker Jonatan Soriano. At Espanyol between 2006 and 2009, Soriano joined a Barça Atlètic side in 2009 coached by Luis Enrique.
