Apple is planning a new AirPods feature that allows the earbuds to live-translate an in-person conversation into another language. People familiar with the new feature tell Bloomberg News that the new translation tool will be tied to iOS 19, the coming update to Apple’s mobile-operating system.

Apple plans to add a live translation to its AirPods via an iOS 19 update coming later this year. As Bloomberg reports, your iPhone would listen to someone speaking in another language and relay the translation to you via your AirPods. If you respond, a translation will be read out loud to the other person on your iPhone.

Granted, this new AirPod ability will still heavily rely on the Translate app; thus, you’ll still have to have your iPhone in hand. In this way, it’s more of an extension of your iPhone’s live-translation feature rather than a new AirPod feature … but it’s still cool nonetheless.
