Has the clock struck 12 on the Guardians? Not yet, because everything in the AL Central stayed the same Friday night. Things have certainly changed in the American League Central. For nearly five months, the Tigers sat atop the division. Now, thanks to losing an embarrassing eight games in a row, including the first two games of the series to the Guardians, Detroit has fallen to second place.
The Guardians lost to the Tigers Thursday, but still have won 18 of 22 and 22 of 29 entering Friday. Thus, Cleveland has gone from 15.5 games back of Detroit on July 6 (and +17000 to win the AL Central at DraftKings) to -230 to win the division at DraftKings.
Three home runs, including a leadoff home run by Jahmai Jones, carried the Tigers in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Guardians.
The Yankees and Jays continued their stare-down in the race for the AL East. Each team won Thursday and remained tied for the division lead. The winner gets a bye in the first-round of the AL playoffs and a healthy shot at the No. 1 seed. Toronto owns the tiebreaker.
