U.S. Open Golf Championship hits into Sunday's final round at Oakmont Country Club with just four players under par, highlighted by tournament leader Sam Burns sitting at 4-under for the weekend.
The USGA announced earlier this week that both the full purse and the winner's share will remain the same from a year ago, with $21.5 million total and $4.3 million to the champion. The organization bumped up the total prize money $1.

U.S. Open heads for the weekend on Saturday morning at Oakmont Country Club, and there are some surprising names atop the leaderboard. Americans Sam Burns and J.J. Spaun lead the way at 3 under and 2 under,
The 18-hole layout is nearly 7,500 yards long and hilly, with three par-3 holes longer than 200 yards alongside one par-5 that exceeds 600. Then there are the especially sandy bunkers and the New York crowd that can be, well...a New York crowd.
Five courses highlighted include Gogebic Country Club, Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, Terrace Bluff Golf Club, Pictured Rocks Golf Course, and The Rock at Drummond Island Resort. Nearby attractions complement the golfing experience, including breweries, lighthouses, state parks, and natural wonders.
There's no such thing as a quick 18 holes at the U.S. Open, particularly when it's at Oakmont. Players needed more than 5 1/2 hours or more to get through each of the opening two rounds, much slower than what they might find at a regular tour stop.
The U.S. Open field has officially been trimmed down. The second round of the tournament at Oakmont Country Club came to a close on Friday night and only three participants were under par. Sam Burns led all golfers at three under par while J.J. Spaun was second at two under and Victor Hovland rounded out the top three at one under par.
