Recent research from Israel’s Hebrew University, reported in Haaretz, estimates that about 70 percent of all structures in Gaza have been made uninhabitable.

To take full control of the enclave, Israel would need to launch ground operations in the areas that have not been destroyed, where most of Gaza's two million population have sought refuge.
