Thailand called on Cambodia to engage positively in efforts to settle a longstanding border dispute, stressing on Thursday it did not recognise the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice after its neighbour said it would refer the issue to the World Court.

The Thai government on Thursday issued its second statement confirming that Thailand does not accept the International Court of Justice’s jurisdiction, a position it has maintained since 1960. The statement emphasized that the Thailand-Cambodia border dispute should be handled under the JBC framework.

Thai authorities say Cambodian troops were inside a disputed area, but Phnom Penh has demanded an investigation into the ‘unprovoked attack’.
