President Donald Trump fired the nation’s top labor statistics official over the weekend while igniting a political firestorm.

Without evidence, Trump called the data "rigged" and implied that BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer manipulated the numbers "for political purposes."

Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who as Labor Secretary oversees the BLS, wrote on social media that she supports Trump’s decision to fire McEntarfer. “A recent string of major revisions have come to light and raised concerns about decisions being made by the Biden-appointed Labor Commissioner,” Chavez-DeRemer wrote.
