Neighbors on Reche Canyon Road have heard the reports of numerous burros being spotted with arrows sticking out of them as if they were used for target practice.

In April 2025, San Bernardino County signed contracts with DonkeyLand, a Riverside-based nonprofit, to care for and sterilize donkeys from both Reche Canyon and the nearby San Timoteo Canyon area.

Officials fear there may be more donkeys that have been injured that have not been found. A nearby sanctuary called Donkeyland is offering a $7,000 reward for information that can catch the shooter.
