MATTOON — The City Council is scheduled on Tuesday, July 1, to consider hiring an engineering firm to perform an in-depth inspection of the dam at 210-acre Lake Paradise.

Councilman Randy Niemeyer believes Lake County's 1.5% income tax rate could be reduced to 0.5% or less as soon as 2028 with little impact to government services.
