Due to Max’s brief death, Vecna’s plan succeeds. Massive cracks rip through Hawkins, combining the real world with the Upside Down. Although Hopper finally gets back home, Hawkins is almost destroyed.

Max's encounter with Vecna, the five-star general of the Mindflayer, makes her case unique. Max will likely regain consciousness at the beginning or end of Stranger Things season 5, volume 1.

“Stranger Things 4” put Sadie Sink’s Max Mayfield through hell. The fan-favorite character ended the season in a coma with her bones broken and eyes blinded at the hands of Vecna.

Both Max and Vecna are expected to return for season five of Stranger Things. The series left off with the Upside Down villain preparing to take over Hawkins, and Max was hospitalized.

It seems Vecna has won and Max is doomed. Eddie dies buying time for his friends in the Upside Down, whom he doesn’t realize are also (with the exception of Dustin) being choked by Vecna.

Stranger Things season 4 ended with Max nearly losing her life at the hands of Vecna. Max technically died for one minute, but she was revived by Eleven as Lucas cradled her in his arms.
