The L.A. school board approved an $18.8 billion budget that postpones layoffs for a year and does not cut services to students. But future years may looking much different.

The union announced the suspension of the return-to-office order on Monday afternoon alongside a new three-year tentative agreement with CalHR, the state’s bargaining representative.

The union was told it would receive a 10% raise over two years — 5% during fiscal year 2025 and another 5% in fiscal year 2026 — during fiscal year 2025 budget talks.

The district has offered a 2% raise to one of its largest unions, which union leaders say is not nearly enough. That 2% offer has not yet been incorporated into the district’s budget projection.

The union representing Safeway store employees in Colorado has given the required 72-hour notice that the strike is set to begin one minute before midnight on Sunday.

The National Endowment for the Humanities did not respond to a request for comment. Less than 60 employees are expected to remain. The agency has a $207 million budget to fund humanities programs ...
