KEARNEY - The University of Nebraska at Kearney cross country team began its 2009 regular season by sweeping the individual championships at the Loper Twilight triangular Friday at Meadowlark Hills.

BROOKINGS, S.D. — The University of Nebraska at Kearney men finished second and the women were sixth at the South Dakota State Classic cross country meet Saturday in Brookings, S.D.

Boonstra covered the 5,000 meters at Kearney Country Club in 16:12.25, with Gretna East's Braden Lofquest second in 16:14.35.

The Bulldogs finished 10th in the 17-team field with 213 points. The Kearney High Bearcats won the meet with 38 points, with Lincoln Southwest and Fremont not far behind with 46 and 51 points ...

The Pius X girls cross country team won the Class B division of the Nebraska-Kearney Invitational at the Kearney Country Club, edging Plattsmouth 42-66 for the team title.

The Bearcats’ boys cross country team placed fifth out of 15 teams in the Class A race Monday at the UNK Cross Country Invitational, and all seven varsity runners finished in the top 55.

Nate Lau finished 19th in the Class B boys competition at the UNK cross country meet, running a time of 17:33.34. Lau's performance led the way for the Vikings' boys, who ended 15th.
