With the federal government taking back $1 billion and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting closing, stations are looking at a harsh new reality.

PBS North Carolina announced Tuesday that it plans to cut staff due to the loss of federal funding for public media.

The organization provides free, public programming, such as PBS Kids shows, documentaries and emergency disaster information.
