Birmingham City School leaders Tuesday evening approved a letter of intent with Gulf Shores-based A&R Development to buy the building on Park Place for $5.2 million.

The company wants to convert the school system building into hotel space to complement the nearby Tutwiler Hotel, which will also undergo $7 million in renovations beginning in 2025.
