No matter the case, a Toyota or Lexus GT3 car is already testing ahead of a mid-decade debut and a new Toyota or Lexus performance road car of some sort should debut alongside it in the near future.

The road-going units of the Toyota GT-One were built from spare parts taken from the race car variant. The GT-One road car weighed around 2,425 lbs, about 400 lbs more than the race cars.

Toyota plans to honor that run at the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans with a special livery in this year's race. The livery pays tribute to the GT-One, the car Toyota ran in that race.

Toyota was also planning to launch a road-going version of its GR010 Hybrid LMH race car, though those plans were abandoned in 2021. That model was due to be called the GR Super Sport.

Until now. Sort of. Toyota asked Evasive Motorsports to build a GR86 with the oily bits from a GR Corolla for SEMA, and motorsport photographer Larry Chen stopped by to check it out.
