NEW YORK (AP) — Dr. David Altchek, who performed more than 2,000 Tommy John surgeries and was the New York Mets longtime medical director, died Thursday. He was 68.

English golfer Tommy Fleetwood’s wife, Clare, is also his manager, with a background in sports management.

Dr. David Altchek performed more than 2,400 Tommy John surgeries during his career and was instrumental in developing the "docking procedure," a breakthrough technique for the surgery.
