Fasting on these days follows the Prophet's teachings, also known as sunnah. Muslims are also encouraged to give to voluntary charity (sadaqah), read the Quran, or make dhikr (remembrance of God).

While the stone is revered, it is not worshipped. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself kissed the stone during Tawaf, but clarified to his followers that it was a symbol, not an idol.
