Firstly, some background. After Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” became a hit in the 1990s, the canon of holiday music was almost completely closed for about 20 years.

I prefer Christina Aguilera’s cover from her album My Kind of Christmas to the original. However, I can see the importance of the track in letting more R&B-inspired sounds into the Christmas canon.

This year marks 30 years since the release of Mariah Carey's hit, "All I Want for Christmas is You." But have any other pop singles been able to enter the holiday music canon since?
